Classical Horse Training & Development - Portugal
Our work is with Lusitano horses (and other breeds) requiring further education, confidence building, rehabilitation following time off, preparation for sale, rider support, and progression through the classical training scale.

For selected horses, Lusitano Heritage offers classical training and development under the guidance of Nuno Cavaco.
We work with only a limited number of horses at any one time, allowing each horse to receive careful, individual attention. The focus is never rushed production, but correct gymnastic development, confidence, balance, suppleness, and long-term soundness.
Nuno’s work is rooted in the Portuguese classical tradition, with more than 25 years’ experience at the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art. Training may include ridden work, in-hand work, lunge work, hacking, confidence building, and progressive strengthening according to the horse’s age, character, condition, and stage of education.
Each horse is assessed on arrival and an individual plan is created in discussion with the owner.
This may include:
Classical dressage training
In-hand and lunge work
Ridden development
Hacking and confidence work
Paddock time and welfare-focused management
Farrier, feeding, veterinary or physio support where required
Video updates and owner communication
Our aim is to help each horse become stronger, lighter, more confident, and more enjoyable for their owner — while preserving the horse’s mind, body, and generosity.

Bo is in fantastic hands. He is sensitively trained without being pushed too quickly, Happily he is not schooled every day in the arena, but instead is taken on regular hacks, worked in hand, on lunge, schooled with poles and obstacles or left to relax in his paddock. Whenever I am in Portugal I take lessons, they are always fun, I am learning so much. It is a privilege to learn from Nuno: not only is he highly experienced; he is also kind, gentle and patient. Sometimes we all go on beautiful hacks in the countryside.
