Fabulous! This summer I incorporated a few days of dressage training into my family holiday.
Teresa was immensely accommodating, ensuring my husband and daughter were welcome around

I was greeted by Teresa and Nuno like an old friend and immediately put at ease. I was looking
for help with my chestnut mare and had brought videos of us cantering on the left lead. I had
been told that I leaned to the left and assumed I was blocking my horse.
Nuno was able to identify that the issue was actually my horse — she was not supple enough to
bring her hind leg underneath to strike off on the left lead. He explained it perfectly by
comparing it to throwing a ball better with one hand than the other, which suddenly made
complete sense to me.
He then talked me through the exercises I needed to do with my mare, using Bingo, the
schoolmaster. I had four lessons on Bingo over a couple of days and by the end I was riding
serpentines with flying changes — even some pirouettes! As someone who only started dressage
in the last couple of years, this was incredibly exciting and great fun.
Bingo was the perfect horse to be paired with. I also highly recommend staying for lunch,
beautifully prepared by Teresa, Allan (a Scottish addition to the family!), and Dubrona, whose
daughter is their groom. Everyone was so friendly and made the whole experience truly
memorable.

I recently spent ten wonderful days at Lusitano Horse Finder with our hosts, Nuno and Teresa.
Nuno is a fantastic instructor — very patient, yet deeply passionate about classical dressage,
both in hand and under saddle.
He taught me how to ride more efficiently despite my scoliosis, and during the lessons he
explained how different horses react to different stimuli, as well as how to prevent and
correct certain reactions. This greatly improved my awareness and feel for the horse.
Nuno was always calm and brought a wonderful sense of humour into the lessons. Their new
facility — although a little tricky to find at first — has an indoor arena, which was perfect
during rainy days.
Teresa’s organisation made everything run smoothly, and she even directed us to a local tack

I went very spontaneously for two lessons with Nuno — one ridden lesson and one in-hand
lesson. I have never taken so many notes after a riding session before; Nuno shared so much
knowledge that it felt like ten lessons in one hour.
He explained so clearly how I could improve my seat and, most importantly, the why
behind it. I now understand much better what I need to do to improve my seat and why it
matters. What I loved most was how he corrected me so I could give the correct signals to the
horse, rather than forcing the horse to function.
Bingo was a very kind and calm horse, which made me feel completely comfortable. The in-hand
session was also incredibly intense and valuable — I tried it at home afterwards and was
surprised by how well it worked.
Nuno is deeply passionate about his teaching. I also loved that the horses spend time out in
paddocks or small meadows — because only a dirty horse is a happy horse.

I am returning to riding after a break of many years and went to Portugal for lessons with the
highly trained classical dressage rider Nuno Cavaco at Lusitano Horse Finder. Teresa and Nuno
arranged lessons for me in a world-class arena on a beautiful, classically trained Lusitano
stallion called Alentejo.
Nuno put me at ease immediately, so I never felt out of place despite my relative novice status.
We worked on walk, trot, and canter transitions, and he explained aids and seat in a way that
was easy to understand and put into practice.
He carefully explained how each adjustment would affect both the horse and my riding. His eye
for detail and clear communication helped me refine my position and understanding. It was
obvious that Nuno has immense experience, and I felt his empathy, compassion, and love for
horses throughout every lesson.
I felt completely spoiled to have time to work calmly and thoughtfully on improving my contact
and seat. Alentejo was a joy to ride — responsive, kind, and wonderful.

We first learned about Nuno Cavaco coming to England through a post from Stoneleigh Riding Club over two years ago. We booked immediately for a series of lessons over three days, as both Vanessa and I are keen followers of the Portuguese and Spanish Riding School approach to training.
We were absolutely delighted when Nuno revealed what Carlos — our Danish Warmblood — was capable of. Flying changes, half passes, shoulder-in, and collection suddenly became real goals for us on a horse who has proven to be a wonderful schoolmaster.

He explains the biomechanics of both horse and rider to show how and why the horse moves or responds in a particular way, making it much easier to understand mistakes and how to correct them.
In each lesson, Nuno identifies a specific problem to work on and we focus on getting that movement, aid, or position right. By the end of every lesson, I have a much clearer understanding of what I was doing wrong, how to fix it, and what I need to work on going forward. I always leave with a real sense of achievement.
Although I have many things to improve as a rider, focusing on just one or two areas in a lesson has proven far more effective than trying to tackle everything at once.
Examples of areas Nuno has helped me with include: leg yielding using quarter and three-quarter lines; rebuilding confidence in canter after an accident through lunge lessons; developing collection in trot leading toward piaffe; and preparing the walk correctly to achieve a balanced, square halt.
I should also add that these lessons were especially effective thanks to the horse I was riding. Bingo — Nuno and Teresa’s horse — is an excellent teacher in his own right.
