MMike Ferreira is a dedicated classical rider whose journey has been shaped by decades of immersion in the art of traditional Portuguese horsemanship.
His riding reflects a deep respect for the horse, a clear sense of timing and feel, and a commitment to harmony between horse and rider.
Mike has studied extensively with respected classical masters, including Francisco Grelo — both in Portugal and during annual training visits to Grelo Farms in Canada. Grelo, a student of the legendary Mestre Nuno Oliveira, has had a lasting influence on Mike’s approach to lightness, softness, and precision in classical work.

Mike’s formation was further shaped by years of mentorship with Mestre Coronel António Lopes Mateus and foundational training under Joaquim Nobre Fernandes. He has also worked regularly with international masters such as Daniel Pinto, António Maria Brito Paes, and Luís Brito Paes, deepening his understanding of classical principles and the development of young Lusitanos.
He has presented horses in traditional tests at the Festival Internacional do Cavalo Lusitano and the Golegã Fair, always with calm presence and authenticity.
