Portugal´s Heritage is very much tied to Equestrian life in many different forms. The horses, in particular, the Lusitanos have played a vital part in shaping Portugal´s history and way of life.
The Lusitano horse to this day is valued highly in Portuguese life. They are regularly seen in the fairs, shows, farms and even the cities.
Equestrian activites still envoke the long history of equitation with the classical roots stemming from the war horses, bull fighting horses, carriage and farm working horses.
We are highlighting equestrian holidays that still offer traditional styles of riding suited to the horse is doing such as classical dressage, farm work which has evolved into a competition sport of working equitation
Reviews & Testimonials
My friend and I had a fabulous few days with Nuno and Teresa, we saw some beautiful horses, and had several great lessons with Nuno. Nuno is incredibly knowledgeable, is a beautiful rider and a very kind, patient instructor. The accommodation that we stayed in was gorgeous, and had everything that we needed. Teresa provided fabulous lunches for us, and these provided an opportunity to sit down and to further discuss horses, riding and to ask Nuno questions. All in all, it was a wonderful experience, and one that I would highly recommend.
Teresa and Nuno couldn’t have made me feel more welcome and at ease. Nuno is a thoughtful and gifted trainer, not just correcting my riding but helping me to understand why the horse was responding in a particular way and how to react in turn. He also took the time to understand where I was at with my own horse in the UK. I am extremely grateful for the time I spent at Lusitania Heritage and now that I am back home so is my horse! An invaluable experience. Thank you.
This was a life changing experience! We felt like part of the family for our stay. Nuno, Teresa, and the team looked after our every need. We stayed in the traditional Portuguese cottage nearby. A short walk to the stables, where the horses were happy and well looked after. The atmosphere was very relaxed and calm. Nuno’s way of teaching and explaining, along with humour, was enlightening. Teresa’s Lunches were so delicious. We will definitely be back.
