The Seat of Presence
Classical Dressage & Rider Awareness Immersion in Portugal
“Seat of Presence is not a riding holiday”
It is a structured classical immersion integrating Lusitano formation, breath regulation, and cognitive refinement in the saddle.
Through twice-daily semi-private sessions and guided rider awareness work, participants develop greater precision — physically and mentally — and leave with a quieter, more powerful seat.
Limited to six riders.
A Classical Formation Programme
At the heart of Seat of Presence lies classical refinement.
Each day combines:
- Semi-private classical dressage lessons on Lusitano horses
- Technical seat development
- Breath and timing integration
- Nervous system regulation for riding clarity
This is not about riding more.
It is about influencing better.
The Mental Discipline of Classical Riding
In classical equitation, progress does not come from force or repetition alone.
It comes from refinement.
Riders often repeat the same corrections, the same mental reactions, the same physical
tensions —
and see the same responses from the horse.
“If we continue to approach riding as we
always have, our influence remains unchanged”.
Seat of Presence asks riders to refine both seat and state of mind.
Through structured awareness training and classical guidance, participants learn to:
- Recognise subtle bracing
- Regulate breath under pressure
- Adjust internal reactions before they reach the reins
- Influence with greater clarity and quietness
Because in classical riding, the smallest change in the rider produces the greatest
change in the horse.
With Nuno Cavaco Classical Dressage Mastery
Nuno brings a lifetime of classical horsemanship taught through patience, precision, and feel.
His teaching develops:
• Suppleness without force
• Collection without tension
• Contact without heaviness
• Communication without noise
Training is exact, calm, and rooted in Portuguese classical tradition.
Nuno Cavaco is the name of the person who quoted this. It should be on the 3rd line. See below for formatting and punctuation
"When the rider is truly presence, the horse becomes still inside - and movement becomes poetry.”
-Nuno Cavaco
Ian Lopez — Rider Integration & Nervous System Specialist
Ian guides the rider awareness pillar of Seat of Presence, integrating Tai Chi principles, breath regulation, and somatic training to support balance and mental steadiness in the saddle.
His work develops:
- Attention stability
- Emotional neutrality
- Postural intelligence
- Movement economy
This is not abstract mindfulness.
It is disciplined awareness applied to classical riding.
Who This Immersion Is Designed For
Seat of Presence is suited to riders who:
- Have an independent seat in walk, trot, and canter
- Seek refinement rather than mileage
- Are willing to examine both technical and mental habits
- Value depth, quietness, and precision
To protect the quality of the work, participation is limited to a small group of six riders.
A Deliberately Structured Experience
Each immersion follows a clear rhythm:
Ride. Integrate. Refine.
Lessons are paired with guided awareness sessions so that insight becomes embodied — not theoretical.
The aim is not intensity. The aim is clarity.
What Seat of Presence Participants Say About Their Experience
I was looking for an opportunity to learn Thai Chi & work with horses. My good friend told me about this trip. It could not have been anymore perfect for me. Lots of things going on at home & the barn~ honestly I went for the Thai Chi Portion with hopes that the horses & Nuno would be at least “OK” ~ I have so much gratitude for what I experienced with the entire program. Teressa, Ian & Nuno are a team like no other. Then the stallions! Food & facilities are comfy and welcoming also. Definitely safe, fun and very educational for all levels of riding~
